sukkot chol ha mo'ed Torah portions

RabbiMeirah 7 years ago 0

I am trying to figure out the Torah reading for a person who died Oct. 21 2016. It is Sukkot, Chol ha Moed day 3 (5th day of Sukkot.) I am finding two problems. 1. In the calendar, the days of Sukkot are listed, I through VII, noting which ones are Chol ha Mo'ed. When I go to the Torah portions, the designation for what "day" it is is listed a little differently. Then, for my day in question, The final aliyah seems to go back and repeat a previous aliyah, but not the one directly previous. I don't know how to toggle between this page and the relevant Hebcal page to check while I am writing this to you. These things confuse me a lot, so I would like another's eyes to check it out. Thanks!

convert date of death to next yahrzeit date

mnburnett 7 years ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 3 years ago 2

I have a long list of Hebrew dates of death in a MySQL database table. I would like to get the secular date of the next yahrzeit for all of these. Any suggestions on how to do this other than manually one-by-one?

Proper English Grammar

dpassman 7 years ago 0

"Fall out" is not proper English, but an unjustifiable yeshivish corruption of "fall". E.g., a certain yomtov falls on Shabbos. Please help your readers use good grammar. Thank you

What does the icon representing HebCal mean, which appears in my browser on the tab for this website? These Hebrew letters are also in the logo of the website.

It's the Hebrew word for calendar. Transliterated "Luach".

Havdalah times missing when holiday is on Motzei Shabbat

Uziel 7 years ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 3 years ago 6

Hi!

I'm having a bug, since my application is using your rest API for getting shabbat times, and its looking for two categories: "candles", "havdala".

But this week, since 1st candle of Hanuka is occuring in Motzei Shabat, there category "havdala" is missing, causing an exception in my application.

Hi, thanks for the feedback.

We've made changes to how our API works and Chanukah candle-lighting times will no longer suppress regular Shabbat/Havdalah times. Here's an example to illustrate how the API now behaves (with 2 events on Friday night and 2 events on Saturday night).

We've changed Hebcal to match how Google's Holidays in Israel calendar displays the holiday.

https://www.hebcal.com/holidays/yom-haaliyah-school-observance-2021

Yom HaAliyah School Observance (Aliyah Day observed in Israeli schools) for Hebrew Year 5782 occurs at dawn on Wednesday, 13 October 2021.

https://www.hebcal.com/holidays/yom-haaliyah-2022

Yom HaAliyah (Recognizes Aliyah, immigration to the Jewish State of Israel) for Hebrew Year 5782 begins at sundown on Sunday, 10 April 2022 and ends at nightfall on Monday, 11 April 2022.
