Hi, thanks for using Hebcal.

To make a change to a Yahrzeit + Anniversary calendar calendar, delete or unsubscribe from the calendar. Return to Hebcal.com and re-enter in all of the event details, then download again. Hebcal does not yet support editing event dates.

To avoid storing sensitive user data on our servers, Hebcal.com recently modified our Yahrzeit + Anniversary calendar export to “download” instead of “subscribe” calendars. This change affects Yahrzeit + Anniversary calendars created on Hebcal beginning in January 2014, and it applies across iOS, Mac Desktop, Microsoft Outlook, etc.

Select All?

Is it possible to add a 'select all' box under 'Customize, print & download your calendar of Jewish holidays'? This way, you don't have to check every single box individually.

It looks like there was only one Shabbat Chanukah in 1949, and that was Parashat Vayeshev. You can click the page to find out the Torah & Haftorah.

Can't Set Jewish Holidays Alerts (Reminder Changes By Itself Afterwards Too)

essiocolom 6 years ago 0

Hi guys,

First of all, iPhone seems to have an issue on showing all-day events on the Calendar widget (haven't found a workaround that doesn't need to install other app). So I thought, well, I'll just add a reminder to all events and it's done.

Of course, I went to Calendar setting and for Default Alert Times I deactivated them: None.

When I go to an event and add a reminder, it won't show in the widget. Then, it will automatically change the reminder to none by itself. So, it seems it doesn't work when I set up a reminder (like 2 days before) and then it also changes the reminder to none.

You can see a video of this here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/o1xafro8agmbg3q/video-1547901236.mp4?dl=0

Cheers!

Sephardic custom when Yahrzeit falls on Adar

Omid 6 years ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 3 years ago 2

https://www.hebcal.com/yahrzeit/

My understanding is that, for Sephardic Jews, all anniversaries (including Yahrzeit) that occurred on Adar, are observed on Adar II (Adar sheni) on leap years. This is different from the Ashkenazi custom as is briefly explained here:

https://www.hebcal.com/home/54/anniversaries-adar-cheshvan-kislev

It would be great to

1.) For such dates, add a note/warning at the top of the page.

2.) Eventually, offer a setting on this page to switch to Sephardic version.

Thank you

I want to write code that will close my e-commerce store over Shabbos. I'd love to be able to use your API to find out Shabbos times. Does the API cost money?

Great! You can do so at no cost. Usage of our API is free.

Kadish for Yahrzeit

Adame 6 years ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 6 years ago 2

Trying to calculate when to say kadish for my father. When the calendar indicates, for example, February 22nd, does it mean that Kadish is to be said the night before (night of the 21st) and also for Shaharit and Minha of the 22nd? Or is it to be said the night of the 22nd and the shaharit and minha of the next day?

Thanks!

Correct!

In general, Jewish Holidays begin the evening before the date specified. This is because the Jewish day actually begins at sundown on the previous night. Sometimes, for clarity, the Erev holiday is also included to indicate that the holiday begins the evening before.
