Javascript to display Hebrew date in English
<script type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8" | |
src="https://www.hebcal.com/etc/hdate-en.js"></script> |
As of Aug 25 2021 11.00hrs GMT, the code above for displaying Hebrew date in English does not appear to function correctly, as evidenced on your own webpage for developers. The other script for displaying the date in Hebrew characters appears to work fine

Hi, thanks for using Hebcal and thanks for reporting this bug!
We were able to reproduce the bug on our end and have deployed a fix for the problem.
The new version of our Javascript code that displays date in English or Hebrew now uses client-side Javascript that adjusts the date based on the browser's timezone. Previously it was based on the timezone of our server (near New York City USA). The new version should better reflect the actual Hebrew date for your users.
Shabbat Shalom and Shana Tova!

Thanks for using the Hebcal Yahrzeit and Anniversary feature. We are sorry to hear that there is a problem with your calendar involving Yizkor events.
Can you send us the URL of your calendar subscription so we can investigate the problem?
Or if you don't have that, could you forward us one of the email confirmation or verification messages? You can paste it here or your can send it to mradwin@hebcal.com
Thanks!

How Are Zmanim Calculated
Hi I have been thanks so much for this API, its amazing! I'm using it to generate an erev shabbos calendar. (Using the Zmanim API because I wanted Plag too) I was reading up on some documentation for calculating times of day and from what I have seen there seem to be two ways to calculate sunrise and other times of day. The USNO (US Navel Observatory), and the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). Which one is used by HebCal?
I see a similar question was asked 4 years ago and was not addressed. So if you can please shed some light (no pun intended) I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi, thanks for using Hebcal and thanks for the question!
Since one year ago (August 2020) our sunrise/sunset algorithm is based on NOAA. There is a little more detail about our implementation here:

Hebrew dates for a given Parasha over a period of 10 years
Is there a way I can find the Hebrew dates for, say, Parashat Yitro, for a period of about 10 years - 1918 thru 1928? I’m trying to deduce a Gregorian birthdate for a family member in order to search for archived birth records.
What we have is a partial date in Shvat, and positive knowledge that it was the week of Parashat Yitro.
It would also be convenient (but not essential) to have equivalent Gregorian dates.
Short of the hard way, Is there any way of doing this now?
TIA
Josh

Hi Josh, thanks for using Hebcal and thanks for your question.
You can visit the Parashat Yitro page on Hebcal and next to the recent dates you'll find a search box that says "Look up the date of Parashat Yitro in a past or future year"
If you enter those 10 years (1918 through 1928) you should be able to get the dates (both Gregorian and Hebrew) pretty quickly.

Holiday on Rosh Chodesh v/s Chodesh Kislev v/s Chodesh Cheshvan
Where it says "Chodesh...." on various dates (such as on Oct. 2nd and on Oct. 30th), that means "the month of....".. Where it says "Rosh Chodesh..." (such as on Oct. 6th and Nov. 5th), that means "the head of the month of...". The month of Cheshvan ("Chodesh Cheshvan") cannot be before the first of the month of Cheshvan ("Rosh Chodesh Chesvan"). The month of Kislev ("Chodesh Kislev") cannot be before the first of the month of Kislev ("Rosh Chodesh Kislev").

Hi, thanks for using Hebcal, and thanks for the feedback.
You might be referring to Mevarchim Chodesh, which is the blessing/welcoming of a new month, for example "Shabbat Mevarchim Chodesh Cheshvan"
https://www.hebcal.com/converter?hd=29&hm=Tishrei&hy=5781&h2g=1
A Shabbat Mevarchim Chodesh will always precede the Rosh Chodesh of that month.
We hope this clarifies things for you!

Google Chrome - yahrzeit reminder
Is there a straightforward way to amend or delete a yahrzeit reminder in Chrome on a Google Pixelbook? The solutions I have seen on this forum refer to Windows, etc. Unless I am missing something, I cannot see any way of unsubscribing or amending a yahrzeit reminder in Chrome. It's obviously not the same as unsubscribing from a calendar within Google Calendar.

Hi, thanks for using Hebcal, and thanks for answering your own question!
We recently made changes to the annual email reminders message. You will now find an “Edit Yahrzeit” link at the bottom of the reminder email message.
We have also written a brief summary and posted in the Help section of the website.

Shana Tova!

Having a problem with the Zmanim API
I am having problems with the Zmanim API. I used the example in the post for São Paulo but when I put in a different date (in the same format) or a different place I get an internal server error. Can someone help?

Hi, sorry to hear about the internal server error. We had some difficulty this morning but the issue is fully resolved now. Can you try again and see if the problem persists? If so, can you send the exact URL you are testing with?

Inadvertently created 2 yahrzeit calendars, one with death occurring on date the other, after sunset
I created a yahrzeit calendar and did NOT include "after sunset" so I created another calendar with the correct date. My question is, to avoid (more confusion), how do I erase/delete the "wrong" calendar to ensure that I don't receive 2 email notices on the anniversary dates? For information purposes, the calendars were created on my Windows Desktop computer (i.e. not on a smartphone)
Thank you for your help
Bob

Hi Bob, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I hope you were able to figure this out?
If not, we did a bit of research and it seems most Windows 10 calendars are created via Outlook.com - so the best way to delete would be to log in at https://outlook.live.com/calendar and remove the calendar by clicking on the three buttons and selecting Remove

Hi, thanks for using Hebcal!
We are sorry to hear you are having trouble finding the triennial Torah readings. Triennial schedule is only available in the Diaspora, and you may have customized your calendar for Israel.
We made a small change to our Israel Torah reading pages earlier this week to make it easier to switch to the Diaspora schedule. You will now see a section called Triennial that includes a link that says "See Diaspora schedule".
Please take a look again and let us know if this helps?
