Hi, thanks for using Hebcal and our yahrzeit email reminder service.

You'll find an unsubscribe link at the bottom of every Yahrzeit email reminder message like the following:

Yahrzeit reminder email messages come from Hebcal and have a subject like "Yahrzeit Observance for October 20-21"

If for some reason you can't find the Yahrzeit  message, please send an email to mradwin@hebcal.com and we'll look your email address up in our database and get you unsubscribed.

If you're using the REST API you can append &i=on to the URL and you'll get results for Israel instead of the Diaspora.

Chanukah candle count seems to be wrong. Tonight, kislev 26, we light 2 candles, not 3

Hi, thanks so much for the feedback and bug report. We investigated the issue and agree that the count looked incorrect for some locations if you visited the Hebcal.com homepage after sunset.

We have modified the candle count to match the correct number of candles based on your latitude/longitude, and we've further clarified by adding the day of the week instead of "tonight"

Chanukah Sameach!

Hi Rabbi, thanks for using Hebcal and thanks for your message.

The Hebcal.com website does list Parashat Tazria as year 3 of triennial cycle for the current year.

Tazria 5782 / תַזְרִיעַ

Read on 2 April 2022 / 1 Nisan 5782

https://www.hebcal.com/sedrot/tazria-20220402

Did you find a page that indicates that the April 2022 reading is for the 2nd year? If so, could you send us the URL and a screenshot?

Update documentation to include date range "hebcal" API?

Leon Adato 3 years ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 3 years ago 1

I'm putting together a page that will show the Parsha hashavua and specific times for a given Hebrew year.

The hebcal.com/hebcal? API will give me the Shabbat dates for a year, but only (as far as I can see) a Gregorian year.

I tested out the &start= and &end= option which is documented in the hebcal.com/zmanim page, and found it works.

The fact that it works is lovely. The fact that it's not described on the hebal.com/hebcal page is perhaps less lovely. I'm willing to pitch in and help with the documentation if that helps.

Thanks for using Hebcal and thanks for this suggestion!

We have updated the Jewish Calendar REST API documentation to reflect the availability of the start/end parameters

Chanukah Rosh Hodesh Maftir?

oreozp 3 years ago updated 3 years ago 2

Aliyah #4 for Rosh Hodesh + Chanukah on a weekday (e.g. Day 7 in 2021) is listed as a maftir, but there is no Haftarah that day. It should just be the 4th aliyah.

Answer

Thanks for using Hebcal, and thanks so much for catching this error!

We have fixed the aliyot so the 4th aliyah is listed as 4 and not maftir. You may need to refresh the page to see the corrected version.

Chanukah

Ljhecht 3 years ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 3 years ago 1

I downloaded Hebcal for iPhone. For some reason, Chanukah does not appear. In past years, each day of Chanukah and how many candles to light was listed. I looked ahead to 2022 and see that Chanukah is not listed there either.

How to share a hebcal anniversary calendar with someone else?

Hi, thanks for using Hebcal's Yahrzeit + Anniversary calendar!

If you visit https://www.hebcal.com/yahrzeit in the same web browser where you earlier created a calendar, you will now see a page that looks like this:

If you click one of the existing personal calendar links, you can share the URL with someone else.

Please note that sharing the calendar shares both view and edit permissions. They will be able to make changes, including adding new names or deleting existing names. Only share the URL with someone that you trust.

Please add Sof Zman Tefila and Shema according to the Magen Avraham

Shulert | Pray Your Way 3 years ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 3 years ago 2

I have been having trouble calculating the Magen Avraham's times based on Alos and Tzeis returned by this API. Please add those two times into the API natively. I believe a lot of people will find it helpful.

We've recently completed this feature request.

https://www.hebcal.com/home/1663/zmanim-halachic-times-api

In addition to previous output there are now two new outputs

sofZmanShmaMGA – Latest Shema (MGA)

Sunrise plus 3 halachic hours, according to Magen Avraham

sofZmanTfillaMGA – Latest Shacharit (MGA)

Sunrise plus 4 halachic hours, according to Magen Avraham

The source code that generates the new times is here:

https://github.com/hebcal/hebcal-es6/blob/main/src/zmanim.js#L205

And if you'd like to see an example of the output:
