Why is Yom Hashoa listed on April 8, i.e. 26th day of Nisan, instead of April 9th?

Answer

Hebcal is correct.

When the actual date of Yom Hashoah falls on a Friday, the state of Israel observes Yom Hashoah on the preceding Thursday. When it falls on a Sunday, Yom Hashoah is observed on the following Monday. In the United States, Days of Remembrance runs from the Sunday before Yom Hashoah through the following Sunday.

Please clarify which is correct? On hebcal, the date for Yom HaShoah this year begins on evening of April 7th ending on April 8th. However, on Google,timeanddate.com, and Wikipedia all have it starting on Thursday, April 8th ending April 9th. Wikipedia even reference hebcal. Please help clarify so we can schedule out observance properly. Thanks.

Hi, thanks for using Hebcal.

Yom HaShoah is held on the 27th of Nisan (April/May), unless the 27th would be adjacent to Shabbat, in which case the date is shifted by a day
