Israeli/Triennal aliyah breakdown?

Rabbi Michael Fessler 6 years ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 6 years ago 1

Hi - I've noticed that you have pregenerated CSV files of aliyah-by-aliyah breakdowns for full kriyah (Israel + Diaspora) and triennial (Diaspora only). Would it be possible to also generate breakdowns for Israel/Triennial? Most Reconstructionist synagogues do 1-day chag and use the triennial cycle, so it would be extremely helpful to have this combination available. Thanks!

Our Aliyah-by-Aliyah triennial readings are only for the Diaspora. Unfortunately, the Rabbinical Assembly's document does not describe how to handle combined Torah readings in Israel.

For example, in the 3-year cycle that began in 5771, in Israel,

  • Behar-Bechukotai were read separately in 5771
  • Behar-Bechukotai were read separately in 5772
  • Behar-Bechukotai were read together in 5773

The 3-year pattern of separate, separate, together (S-S-T) does not appear on page 403 of the document.

In the Diaspora, which the document covers,

  • Behar-Bechukotai were read separately in 5771
  • Behar-Bechukotai were read together in 5772
  • Behar-Bechukotai were read together in 5773

The 3-year pattern of S-T-T is cycle variation C on page 403, so we can publish it correctly.

This problem occurs with the other combined parshiyot as well. For example, Matot-Masei is S-T-S in Israel in 5774, 5775, and 5776 (the current cycle) but S-T-T in Diaspora. S-T-T is indeed covered on page 410, but S-T-S (for Israel) is not provided.

I am not aware of a source for triennial readings in Israel. If you know of such a source, please share it?
