Hello
I need to get the current parahat name.I need both current parasha (for Israël and for Diaspora).
When I run :
https://www.hebcal.com/shabbat?cfg=json&tzid=Asia/Jerusalem
I get this :

{"title":"Hebcal New York City December 2024","date":"2024-12-17T15:50:38.350Z","version":"5.8.3-3.2.0","location":{"title":"New York City, New York, USA","city":"New York City","tzid":"America/New_York","latitude":40.71427,"longitude":-74.00597,"cc":"US","country":"United States","elevation":57,"admin1":"New York","asciiname":"New York City","geo":"geoname","geonameid":5128581},"range":{"start":"2024-12-20","end":"2024-12-21"},"items":[{"title":"Candle lighting: 4:13pm","date":"2024-12-20T16:13:00-05:00","category":"candles","title_orig":"Candle lighting","hebrew":"הדלקת נרות","memo":"Parashat Vayeshev"},{"title":"Parashat Vayeshev","date":"2024-12-21","hdate":"20 Kislev 5785","category":"parashat","hebrew":"פרשת וישב","leyning":{"1":"Genesis 37:1-37:11","2":"Genesis 37:12-37:22","3":"Genesis 37:23-37:36","4":"Genesis 38:1-38:30","5":"Genesis 39:1-39:6","6":"Genesis 39:7-39:23","7":"Genesis 40:1-40:23","torah":"Genesis 37:1-40:23","haftarah":"Amos 2:6-3:8","maftir":"Genesis 40:20-40:23","triennial":{"1":"Genesis 39:1-39:6","2":"Genesis 39:7-39:10","3":"Genesis 39:11-39:18","4":"Genesis 39:19-39:23","5":"Genesis 40:1-40:8","6":"Genesis 40:9-40:15","7":"Genesis 40:16-40:23","maftir":"Genesis 40:20-40:23"}},"link":"https://hebcal.com/s/5785/9?us=js&um=api"},{"title":"Havdalah: 5:18pm","date":"2024-12-21T17:18:00-05:00","category":"havdalah","title_orig":"Havdalah","hebrew":"הבדלה"}]}

Which is New York current Parasha.

I have also tried with the url  :
https://www.hebcal.com/shabbat?cfg=json&tzid=Europe/Paris

I get this :

{"title":"Hebcal New York City December 2024","date":"2024-12-17T15:50:38.350Z","version":"5.8.3-3.2.0","location":{"title":"New York City, New York, USA","city":"New York City","tzid":"America/New_York","latitude":40.71427,"longitude":-74.00597,"cc":"US","country":"United States","elevation":57,"admin1":"New York","asciiname":"New York City","geo":"geoname","geonameid":5128581},"range":{"start":"2024-12-20","end":"2024-12-21"},"items":[{"title":"Candle lighting: 4:13pm","date":"2024-12-20T16:13:00-05:00","category":"candles","title_orig":"Candle lighting","hebrew":"הדלקת נרות","memo":"Parashat Vayeshev"},{"title":"Parashat Vayeshev","date":"2024-12-21","hdate":"20 Kislev 5785","category":"parashat","hebrew":"פרשת וישב","leyning":{"1":"Genesis 37:1-37:11","2":"Genesis 37:12-37:22","3":"Genesis 37:23-37:36","4":"Genesis 38:1-38:30","5":"Genesis 39:1-39:6","6":"Genesis 39:7-39:23","7":"Genesis 40:1-40:23","torah":"Genesis 37:1-40:23","haftarah":"Amos 2:6-3:8","maftir":"Genesis 40:20-40:23","triennial":{"1":"Genesis 39:1-39:6","2":"Genesis 39:7-39:10","3":"Genesis 39:11-39:18","4":"Genesis 39:19-39:23","5":"Genesis 40:1-40:8","6":"Genesis 40:9-40:15","7":"Genesis 40:16-40:23","maftir":"Genesis 40:20-40:23"}},"link":"https://hebcal.com/s/5785/9?us=js&um=api"},{"title":"Havdalah: 5:18pm","date":"2024-12-21T17:18:00-05:00","category":"havdalah","title_orig":"Havdalah","hebrew":"הבדלה"}]}

Which is also New York current Parasha

for Paris it's not a problem as New York and Paris have the same parachiot order. But in Israel, after Pessa'h or Souccoth, there may be a difference following the Hag is only one day ?

How can I get the true parasha for Israel ?

In advane thank you for your explanations

best regards

Hi, thanks for using the Hebcal APIs

The basic URL format is as follows:

https://www.hebcal.com/shabbat?cfg=json&geonameid=3448439&M=on

You must specify a location for candle-lighting times:

  • geo=geoname – location specified by GeoNames.org numeric ID
    • requires additional parameter geonameid=3448439
    • Hebcal.com supports over 100,000 different GeoNames IDs. These are world cities with a population of 1,000 or more. See cities1000.zip from https://download.geonames.org/export

If you pick the correct geonameid for a city in our database, you don't need to specify the tzid.

You will find good documentation and examples at
