Display The Weekly Sedra/ Parasha

Menasche 6 months ago updated by Michael J. Radwin 6 months ago 8

Please can you add the Parasha of the week, next to every occurrence of a Saturday, on the listing of Hebrew dates next to the Gregorian ones on the page at url https://www.hebcal.com/converter?gd=26&gm=10&gy=2023&g2h=1?

That's good info! So are you looking for a big 6-year table with the parshiyot on the left and different columns for each Hebrew year, and the date of the parsha in each cell? We could do a version like that, with just the Shabbat dates (which would be pretty easy to read) or it could potentially have the Monday and Thursday dates in each cell also.

Dear Michael,

This is a good start and I look forward to this.

Thank you!

Hi, take a look at this page (this is just a "rough draft") and let us know if this is what you're looking for?

https://www.hebcal.com/sedrot/grid

OK, I think I found the webpage that could be improved, so that one can look up a date (Hebrew or Gregorian) of any given Shabbos: Jewish Holidays - Hebcal.  What I really wanted is to be able to search for the name of any Parsha, then this will allow me to see the weekdays (Thursday & Friday)  leading up to that Shabbos.  This should help us (www.travellingchassidim.org.uk)plan our Shabbos away

Dear Michael,

Ever heard of "Murphy's Law"?  WHen I am away from my desk I know exactly what I am missing from my Hebcal experience and when I sit down to explain it, there's some fogginess . . . seems that I'll have to think really hard in order to illustrate the scenarion to which I am seeking a solution!

Thanks for the feedback and for explaining your use case better. I think I still don't understand what you're looking for. The example you gave earlier was this page:

https://www.hebcal.com/converter?gd=26&gm=10&gy=2023&g2h=1

This page already displays the parsha of the week underneath the date, regardless of what day of the week it is

But what you seemed to be asking for was more... I think you were asking for the Parsha to be displayed next to any Saturday in the table of dates at the bottom of the page like this?

Hi, thanks for this suggestion. We will consider your request and see if there's a way to make the page design work well on the Hebrew Date Converter without complicating the page too much,

In the meantime, if you are looking for a compact display of all of the parshiyot in one year, we have 3 different tools you can use:

1. Our Candle-lighting Times Year at a Glance page shows Shabbat and holiday candle lighting times and Parashat haShavuah (weekly Torah Portion) for the entire year on a single page

2. Parashat ha-Shavua by Hebrew year also include the Torah and Haftarah

3. if you would like just the Parsha of the week, you can get it with the following:

1. visit https://www.hebcal.com/hebcal

2. clear all of the checkboxes, leave only "Weekly Torah portion on Saturdays" checked

3. click "Create Calendar" button

4. On the results page, toggle from Month to List

You'll see a page with just the Torah readings on Saturday that look like this:

Hi,

The three options you presented me with are useful indeed. However these suggestions will not solve my problem, for the following reasons:

Option 1: This option only shows the Friday of each week AND doesn't work for UK Postcodes (aka "ZIP code").

Option 2: This option only shows the Shabbos day of each week.

Option 3: This option is just for anyone who wants to PRINT a calendar.

What I am after is the following, which I'll explain with a real life scenario:

When we (the Travelling Chassidim) are invited to a town to spend Shabbos in a synagogue, we need to see the Hebrew dates of Thursday through Sunday, so that we can plan our trip.

If we could enter a date in Hebcal and see what week and Parasha it is, this will make our planning that much easier.

Thank you and Hatzlochoh Rabboh!
