Where are Holocaust Remembrance Day. Israel Independence Day, and Yom Yerushalayim?
To include Yom HaShoah and other modern holidays, be sure to check the "modern holidays" option at http://www.hebcal.com/hebcal
When did the world begin? How do you know?
Hello, I would like to
know how the Hebrews came up with the year 5776?
How do you figure that exact year?
Did Adam or Eve leave a message as to what year the beginning started?
How do you know? I am not really being funny. I just want an explanation of how someone came up with the exact year that the earth began? Through science? Science claims it is millions of years old which we know it isn't. What? Please respond. I am glad to see the 5776, but how do you know it isn't year 5976 or 5986? How did you figure it? please explain. Inquiring minds would like to know. Thanks for a prompt response.

Extract holiday layning from API
Can you provide some direction on how to get layning values for Jewish holidays via the API
We've been using your Hebcal REST API to extract Torah information.
For example, here is the April REST call:From the items array, we find each of the parashat objects (i.e. category = parashat). For example:{"title": "Parashat Shmini","hebrew": "פרשת שמיני","date": "2016-04-02","category": "parashat","link": "http://www.hebcal.com/sedrot/shmini","leyning": {"7": "Leviticus 11:33 - 11:47","2": "Leviticus 9:17 - 9:23","5": "Leviticus 10:16 - 10:20","3": "Leviticus 9:24 - 10:11","torah": "Leviticus 9:1 - 11:47","triennial": {"4": "Leviticus 11:20 - 11:28","1": "Leviticus 11:1 - 11:8","6": "Leviticus 11:33 - 11:38","maftir": "Numbers 19:1 - 19:22 | Shabbat Parah","5": "Leviticus 11:29 - 11:32","3": "Leviticus 11:13 - 11:19","7": "Leviticus 11:39 - 11:47","2": "Leviticus 11:9 - 11:12"},"haftarah": "Ezekiel 36:16 - 36:38 | Shabbat Parah","1": "Leviticus 9:1 - 9:16","6": "Leviticus 11:1 - 11:32","4": "Leviticus 10:12 - 10:15","maftir": "Numbers 19:1 - 19:22 | Shabbat Parah"}}From each parashat, we inspect the "leyning" to extract maftir, haftarah, the aliyah, and Torah portion (i.e. "title").However, for Saturdays that are Jewish Holidays, the parashat object do not appear to be provided (ex. April 23, April 30).Can you provide some direction on how to get these prayer values for Jewish holidays?
Our REST API doesn't yet expose holiday Torah readings. This is a missing feature
https://github.com/hebcal/dotcom/issues/16
In the interim, your best bet might to download CSV leyning spreadsheets that we post here, as they include the aliyah-by-aliyah breakdown:
5,14 1948 ,is 5 lyyr 5708 in Hebrew whay is the date exactly 70 years lated to the day
if may 14 1948 is 5,lyyar 5708 what is the exact date 70 years later in the georgen calender
70 years after 5 Iyyar 5708 on the Hebrew calendar would be 5 Iyyar 5778. You can convert that back to Gregorian at http://www.hebcal.com/converter/

The Hebcal Alexa Skill
The Hebcal Alexa Skill is not recognizing my pronunciation of Hebcal (Heeb-kal). I have tried to speak faster, slower, from a closer distance, nothing works. Other skills work fine. Any recommendations?
Sorry to hear that Alexa is having trouble recognizing the name of our skill.
You can try saying "Alexa, open Hebcal"
